Is GuessGlobe free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy, no subscription, no paid tier and no premium puzzles. We intend to run display advertising on the site — that is how it is meant to pay for itself — but the game itself is not gated behind anything.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email, no login. Your results, your streak and your history are stored by your own browser and are never sent to us, which is also why we cannot show you a global leaderboard.

What happens to my streak if I clear my browser or switch device?

You lose it. Everything is kept in your browser only, so clearing site data, using a private window, or moving to another device starts you from nothing. This is a deliberate trade: no account means no personal data to keep, and it also means nothing to recover.

How many guesses do I get?

5. Each guess is answered with a distance, a direction arrow and a proximity colour, and reveals one more clue about the place.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes, one per UTC day, and it is the same puzzle for everybody in the world. That is what makes a shared scorecard mean anything: two people comparing results played the identical puzzle.

Can I play yesterday’s puzzle?

You can read it — every finished day has an archive page with the scene, the clues and the answer — but you cannot play it for a score. A daily game where some people have played 40 puzzles and others played today’s makes the scorecard meaningless.

Are the pictures real photographs?

No. Every scene is produced by an AI image model from a written description of a real place. They are not photographs, not street-view captures, and not pictures of any specific building. No real map or street imagery is used anywhere on this site.

How is the distance worked out?

Great-circle distance between the capital city of the country you guessed and the coordinate of the place in the scene. Because the answer end is the depicted place rather than that country’s capital, a scene in the far east of a huge country is measured from the far east of it. Why is my guess "5,000 km away" when the countries look adjacent?

Each country you guess is represented by a single point, its capital. For very large countries that point can be thousands of kilometres from the part of the country you had in mind. It is a known limitation of a one-point-per-country rule, and we publish the rule rather than pretending the effect is not there.

Is there a leaderboard?

No. A leaderboard needs accounts and anti-cheat, and we have neither. The shared scorecard is the comparison mechanism instead: it says how many guesses you took without revealing where.

Does the shared scorecard give the answer away?

No, and that is enforced rather than intended: the scorecard contains no country name, no city name, no distance figures and no image. The only numbers in it are the puzzle number and your score.

Who is behind this, and is it connected to any other geography game?

It is an independent project with no connection to GeoGuessr, Worldle or Globle — no partnership, no shared code or data, no endorsement in either direction. How the puzzles are made and who checks them is described on the about page.
